So... You wake up, grab your coffee, and tell yourself: Today’s the day I finally get my social media sorted. You sit down, open Instagram, and… suddenly, it’s three hours later, you’ve gone down a Reels rabbit hole, and the only thing you’ve posted is an accidental story of your thumb.

Sound familiar?

Managing your own social media should be simple. Post, engage, grow, repeat. But somewhere between trying to crack the algorithm and figuring out why your engagement has disappeared into the void, it starts to feel less like a business tool and more like an unpaid, full time job.

Let’s break down the biggest struggles many business owners experience when running their own socials because if you’re feeling the pain, trust me, you’re not alone.

1. You have algorithm anxiety

One day, your post is thriving. The next? Ghost town. You’ve tried all the “best” posting times, the trendy hashtags, even that awkward trending audio, yet, the algorithm seems to have a personal vendetta against you.

Social platforms change their algorithm constantly. What worked last month might be useless today, leaving you stuck in a cycle of trial, error, and frustration.

2. The never ending content creation game

You finally post something you love, but before you can celebrate, you realise… you have to do it all over again tomorrow. Batch creating is not something you have nailed yet and you fee like you're a chicken on a rotisserie (but a social media content creator version)

Social media runs on consistency, but keeping up with fresh, engaging content while running a business? Nearly impossible without sacrificing sleep (or sanity).

3. You’re Talking, But No One’s Listening

You pour your heart into a post. The caption is clever. The design is flawless. You hit “post” and wait for the engagement to roll in… and nothing. Maybe a like from your mum, if she's even on social media. Maybe a random bot comment. But no actual connection.

Social media is supposed to be about conversations, but getting people to interact organically without feeling like you’re begging for likes... is one of the hardest parts of the game.

4. You're screen time makes you want to cry

If you’re running your own socials, chances are your screen time report makes you cringe, cry or vomit. There’s no clocking out when you are the marketing team, and suddenly, responding to comments at 11 PM becomes normal. You lose the work life balance you once had.

Just because social media is 24/7 doesn’t mean you should be. The constant pressure to post, engage, and stay relevant can lead straight to burnout. Trust me, I've learned this from personal experience.

5. You have no idea what’s actually working

You’re posting consistently, trying new strategies, and following all the expert advice… but when you check your analytics, it’s a mess of numbers that don’t make sense.

Social media isn’t just about posting, it’s about knowing why certain content works and replicating that success. Without a clear understanding of what’s driving growth, you’re throwing spaghetti at the wall and hoping something sticks.

6. You’ve tried every trend… and nothing works

You jumped on the trending audio. You tried the viral meme format. You even made a Reel with a dance you swore you’d never do… and still, your reach is disappointing.

Trends can boost visibility, but they’re not a growth strategy. Without a long term plan, your content is just noise.

7. You’re overwhelmed by the different platforms

Instagram. TikTok. Facebook. LinkedIn. Threads. Pinterest. You think you “should” be on all of them, but who has the time?

More platforms don’t always mean more reach. Trying to be everywhere at once is a fast track to burnout.

8. Your feed is starting to feel… Boring

You keep posting, but something feels off. Your content is fine, but it’s not exciting, fresh, or anywhere near YOU.

Social media is supposed to be an extension of your brand, not a generic content machine. If you’re uninspired, your audience will be too.

9. You’re posting for the sake of it

Ever thrown up a random post just to have something there? No thought, no strategy just a half assed attempt to keep up with your “posting schedule.”

Posting for the sake of posting won’t get you anywhere. It’s better to be intentional than to clutter your feed with content that doesn’t resonate. Quality over quantity!

10. You're manage instagram ads but getting nothing except a dry bank account.

You think the magic fix is a post boost, until apply charge you 30% and you get nothing but crickets and a few weird spammy DM's.

Ads are always recommended, but boosting is not the answer. You have no real strategy in place when you do this, no control over who you are targeting and you are absolutely not taking anyone down the sales funnel. EXCEPT, you have no idea how to navigate facebooks business manager. It all feels like a black hole of jibberish information.

You know you need proper facebook advertising management but wouldn't even know where to start or even look.
